Skimmer is probably one of the most important parts of a healthy saltwater tank.

Is the film red or just green film? Deffinetely get the skimmer it will make your life much easier. As long as your lights are flourescent they shouldnt mess with your water color.

No, lighting won't have an effect on your water. How many fish do you have, how long has the tank been set up for, and how much do you feed the fish?

It's a white looking film. I can just see it swaying in the water on the glass. They're just 'marine-glo' original bulbs that can be used in the housings that came with the tank. They're blue tinted bulbs?

If they arent yellow they arent incandescent and they should be fine for a FOWLR tank. Try and get some pictures of that film.

Right now, I have a trigger and a puffer. My clownfish and Fuzzy dwarf lion passed on... It's been set up for several weeks now. I feed them at night, usually shrimp pellets and sometimes seaweed sheets that the local fish store owner recommended.

Have you had it tested for ammonia, or nitrite? Sorry to hear about your fish, your tank is most likely still cycling. I dont know if I would trust what your LFS tells you anymore, sounds like they dont know much about marine, or even fish in general.

Reduce feeding for a while, I would feed them every other day or so, at least till everything starts to clear up.

Right now I'm just trying to figure out how to get the water to clear up in general. I don't think it's safe for me to leave it like this. I'm going to change my filter cartridges and scrub the glass and see if that gets things moving.

I would do a 25% WC, syphon out any thing that looks gross, have the water tested, replace the filter media, and check it again tomorrow.

I don't have any premixed salt water ready to put in the tank right now unfortunately. I guess I'll get that ready tonight so I can do the water change asap.... meh, I'm worried about the fish in there right now :|

So my filter went out today after I did a water change... No idea why it won't turn back on.. I ordered a Reef Octopus BH-800S though that should be here in a few days. Hopefully that helps me get the water sorted out. What do you think? I should of just gotten a protein skimmer to begin with, I know...
