I am setting up a smaller tank, a 29 gal. ( 30" long, 16" deep.)
I have about 3 inches of oolitic sand for the bed that was used in my freshwater tank. I am using ro/di water from my LPS. They even mix the saltwater for you. I have a HOB Penquin 330 with removed biowheels. I have a
protein skimmer(SeaClone) 100 that is not currently running because the tank is cycling.
Tank Specs are:
Salinity=1.023
Nitrate=.20ppm (too high for my liking)
Nitrite= 0
KH=300
PH=8.4
I am getting a sunpaq- orbit lighting system ( would appreciate any reviews before I plunk down 179.00 on it however)
Currently my livestock includes: 1 blue devil, 1 strawberry pseudochromis (dottieback), 1 Mexican Turbo snail (hugh), 4 Scarlet legged hermits, 1 emerald crab. I have 21 lbs of fiji, tonga branch live rock and I am adding more for a total of 37 lbs. I am not running a sump or refugium and was wondering if this is a mistake. Would love to learn more about the pros and cons of running such.
In the last eight days I have lost a
nassarius snail, and about 3 hermits. I can't understand why however. I have a light dusting of diatoms and had a Sypha sponge develop which quickly got eaten.
Would appreciate any information- advice and do's and don'ts
thanks
