mjkelly's 180 gallon reef. My first tank.
I figured its about time to start one of these threads since i have the tank all set up and all.
I have a 180 gallon salt water setup. Its a 72x24x24. It has dual overflows and dual returns in the back corners which are drilled through the bottom of the tank. I only have about 40-50 lb of live rock in the tank at the moment but that will change soon. It has on average a 4-5" deep live sandbed. I bet its close to 500 lbs of sand. It filled up a 40 gallon rubbermaid trashcan to the very top. I got the sand from two different previous owners that had it in their tanks. It has a
small sump that came with the tank when i bought it. Its probably only 24x12x12 or close to it. Maybe 15" high not 12". Its an acrylic sump that was professionally done with overflows in it and all.
As far as equipment at the moment, i have one ice cap ballast/pendant 250 MH 14k light for my tank hanging about 20 inches over the water. I think this may need to be lowered a little but im not sure. I'll probably add another one in the future sometime as i start getting corals and all. I have a needlewheel200 octopus skimmer thats brand new. It BARELY fits in the middle of my sump. I mean by like an inch on all sides. There are three heaters in the sump and two powerheads in the display tank and the return pump. I dont know what GPH it is bc i didnt get any documentation with it and honestly forgot to take a good look at it before i set it all up.
I think i covered everything except the fish and i only have a couple of them, some yet to be identified. I know theres a yellow tang, an engineering goby, an urchin, and two clown fish. There are at least 3 more than are unidentified. I think one is a tang. It kinda looks like the yellow tang.
I think thats everything. I hope i didnt miss anything.
