Question

hammer head tank

here are the spec's
LxWxH=96 inches long ,35 inches wie and 48 inches tall for a grand total of 698.1818 gallons

would like your oppinion on whether or not this is large enough to put a baby hammer head shark into until it need's to be released due to size.

The tank is going in , it is just a matter of what is going to go into the tank.

A little unsure what is appropriate for this tank and i am very animal friendly and i would never put an animal in something to small so please help

There are several species commonly called "Hammerheads". Only one would be even possible in your tank, and even it would not have enough room. These types of sharks move a lot and need plenty of room to swim. While your tank is big, it's not big enough for a 3 foot fish.

Sphyrna corona - 3 feet
Sphyrna tiburo - 5 feet
Sphyrna lewini - 14+ feet
Sphyrna zygaena - 16+ feet

To get more answers to your question you should post in the general discussion forum.

A LFS by me has a bonnethead shark. It's a small hammerhead that grows to about 3 feet. It is by itself in a tank that is 96 inches long, 48 inches wide, and 36 inches high. Just a sandy bottom with no decor. The shark is about 2 feet right now but in pretty sad shape. It keeps banging into the tank and has sores all over its head. It basically can't be kept in a tank with any corners otherwise it will get injured. Even in their 700 plus gallon tank, it is slowly dieing.

I just saw a week long special on the Discovery channel about sharks, It seems the hammer head uses his unique head as a pry bar to get into the reef for un suspecting "snaks". You might keep this in mind if your thinking of a reef type setting. IMO sharks belong in the oceans. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
