First Salt water Tank

I starting with a donated 30 gallon tank. 3-4" of Aragonite sand about 30 pounds normal sand and 20 pounds live sand, Put 10-15 pounds of crushed coral in with it.
Added some live rock(10 pounds) and made the rest of the rocks and caves out of Aragocrete. enought to arches and cave along the back of the tank.
I added the crew of red hermit crabs and snails. My hermit crabs slowly died off after they killed some of the snails. Tried feeding them so they wouldnt, there were plenty of extra shells but they just wanted the ones that moved. LOL
Heater set around 80 degrees
Two 301 power filters
Dec 2001 Added a Prizm protein skimmer, supposed to handle up to a 90 gallon.
Jan 7th 2002 I thought my filtered water was good enough, I have well water with a softener. I am getting hair algae. So I bought a deioning unit to make water. and have been doing water changes at least weekly for four weeks about 5 gallons a pop.

Jan 25th 2002: I built a hood and put 2 96 watt power compac lights in it from ahsuppy.
One dark blue actinic
One 10,000k
Residents now, which is probably too much and why I have algae.
2 small percula clown, pr one is like twice the others size.
One Royal gramma
I still have hair algae, added a lawnmower blennie, more like a dieting trimmer.
Wife wanted a tang, since they like algae I got a small Purple Tang, when he gets bigger I will have 55+ tank for him.
I have coraline growth, small specs everywhere, hopefully the new lights will kick that up
Also a fist sized rock covered in Striated mushrooms and a couple blue ones, They love that light and are huge. one is like 3 inches across, might try spreding them...
