I am currently in the process of starting my first reef tank. So far this is where I am at in the process....

LIGHTING

Ice Cap 430 balast mounted in base cabinet, running two 97 watt Panasonic PC7200k power compacts.
Ice Cap 3000 balast mounted in base cabinet, running one 36", 95 watt
VHO super actinic 03.
Two Ice Cap programable digital timers hard-wired and running each balast separatly.
Quick disconnect wire clips at the hood for the balast wiring.
Three duplex outlets installed in cabinet base, two are equipted with GFI outlets for pumps and heaters.
FILTRATION
CPR Backpac II
protein skimmer
Rio 2100 power head pump
(looking at the Ocean Currents Oscillator head for wavemaking capability but currently on back-order)
Tank was first set-up on 2/22/01 with live rock and 40# Aragonite. on 3/03/01 I pulled the rock, removed 20# of base sand and added Oolitic sand and live sand. Reinstalled live rock (what a mess) Tank is currently cycling with high nitrite levels but at least the ammonia level is dropping....
Well, so far so good.......I think I am official launced into reef keeping (Lord help my checkbook)......
