Question

About my tank

Dear All,
My name is Rafi. I am from Indonesia
I am a marine tanks beginner but i try hard to built my own tanks.
I have a tank (80cmLx50cmHx50cmL) its around 50 US gallons which already fullfilled with live rocks and fish, this tank has no skimmer and chiller.
The design of this tank only has a internal filtration which use rock filter and activated carbon also with heater. For circulation i use 1800 litres/hour pump. For lighting i used only 40 Watt bulb (TL) which 20 watt neon is an UV. My aquarium is located on my room with air con
The ambient temperature is about 26 deg Celcius but i used heater to achieve 28 deg Celcius.

About the gravel bed, i dont know what is called in English but the gravel bed that i meant is a little pieces of dead rock (about 1"-2" length, is it called gravel bed also? should i change that bed with sand bed?

About water, i've been 2 months already not changes the water only tapping the water from deepwell.
For algae, the red algae has already growth in my tank why we dont want it? and i have to clean the glass every 3 days, what i should have to do regarding this algae?

My tank condition:
PH = 7.28
Fe(ppm) = 0.01
TDS (ppm) = 18760.
Chloride (ppm) = 45.262
NH4 (ppm) = 0.12
Conductivity (uS/cm) = 46.900
Alkalinity (mvol/L) = 3.6
Calcium (ppm) = 2278.4
Nitrate (ppm) = 330
Phosphate (ppm) = 11
Total Hardness as CaCO3 (ppm) = 5.696

Could you please give me any recomendation and maintenance activity or what i have to do to make it better that i should have for the future. And how's going for the next month with this condition.

Thank you very much for your attention
Regards
Rafi.

algae control

Rafi,
I see no one has replied in 2 months so I will give it a try, could be the metric numbers (americans have a problem with them). I am not an expert and if you search on "algae" you will see many replies on this subject. Simply, you should consider using a skimmer, change 10% water each month, add about 6 cm of aragonite sand of aprox 1-2 mm grain size. Remove the broken coral bed, you can keep it in the tank, but you need a finer grain bed. As you will read in many posts, the algae feed off the phosphates, you should not detect any, or very little 0.5 is enough for alarm. As with 0.3 or more of ammonia. Your lighting is not enough, for a reef tank I recall aprox 3 watts per 3.8 Liter. Loose the uv neon bulb, use standard fluorescent if you have to. I can't find the conversion from celcius to F. but try for a temp of 77 to 80 deg F. Test the well water to see how bad it is, we all try to use R. O. water. This should get you started, your tank has been neglected and could use a little care. Changing 20% of the water every 2 days for 2 weeks will help alot. Read more posts and understand the basic idea of the required maintenance we all must do. Good luck, hope this helps
