90 gal specs

We have a 90 tank (glass) with a overflow box. Have a Eco system for a filter, so far it seems to be working ok. Little giant return pump, Three powerheads in the tank and 1 in the sump w/ the caulerpa. Hamilton lighting hood w/ 2 actinic blue floresents and 2 175w 6500k MH lights, thinking about uping the MH to 10k. No skimmer.

Question

Your tank question.

Hi Littlefoot! I was wondering how you like your lighting system. I ‘m in the process of setting up a 90ga. also. I have ordered the same fixture as you with exception to 10000K bulbs. I plan on mounting the fixture directly on the top with 4in raiser. How did you set yours up and are you having water heat problems? Also, I noticed that you have an ecosystem. I ordered the same but under the tank model. How is yours doing? I live in CA. so the caulerpa will be difficult to acquire since it’s now state wide banned. Hope you are enjoying your new tank.. Thank you, Steve

So far I really like it, though sometimes it seems hard to get advice beacuse most people with experiance in Reefs don't use this type of filter system, skimmerless.
My eco is under my tank in my stand an it works really well. I have noticed that once it gets going I have to prune the caulerpa quite often. Also with the 24 hr light in the sump you don't get the ph swing you see in other setups which I think helps a lot with stress.
Right now I just set my light on top of the tank. No trouble yet but I have yet to go through my 1st summer. This spring I am going to build the Hood But right now I am still working on the design. I want to be able to work on the tank and move the light out of the way by lifting up on a hinged type hood. I will try to add a photo if I can get this cheep camera to work.
I don' get to the computer every day or sometimes every week so any questions asked may see a reply a week or so later, sorry for the lag and my spelling.

Jack

ecosystem

Thanks for the reply Jack. I'm looking foreward to getting the ecosystem up & running. I ordered a bunch of macro on Ebay and will plant asap. I'm happy to see that the lights don't cause a major heat wave in your tank. Good luck on your hood design. Let us know when you finish so we can see it! Steve

Thumbs up

Nice pic!!! I see you figured out how to attach the input PVC to your ecosystem. I can't for the life of me figure that one out so I went down to the local OSH and got a 2" clear soft plastic tube and hooked it up from overflow hanging down into the #1 chamber. I just finished up on the plumbing and will start the tank in the morning after the mud settles. I'm wrighting Ecosystems and asking why one needs to wait one week before adding rock. And then another week before plants. Thanks for the pic. Nice rock work! Steve
