75 Gallon

I currently have a 75 gallon freshwater tank.

I am planning on converting it to a reef tank this summer. I currently run two Penguin 330 biowheels (enough for 150 gal) but understand I need to change my filtration. I've been talking to an aquarium owner near me on the steps to take.

I've heard I can keep my current lighting if I choose to, any thoughts?
Also, what do you recommend the best way to clean my tank when I tear it down?

Thanks in advance.

Nico

Welcome to TRT, octupi!

What kind of lighting do you currently have?

Where in OH are you located? I'm located just north of Cincinnati.

Hey DataDude, I'm near Toledo, but the ironic thing is I travel to Milford (East side of Cinci) once a week for business (going there on Thursday this week), usually on Mondays, but meetings need me there on Thursday. I work for UGS, an engineering software company down there.

I have the standard hood that comes w/ tanks for fresh water set ups, twin bulb. I have the glass covers for both sides of the tank as well.

I'm also planning on stopping by a dog breeder in Middletown on the way home thursday if possible....fill me in, I'm all ears.

Thx.

Your lighting requirements will depend on what you want to put in your tank once you switch to saltwater. Your tank dimensions will also come into play.

My 75g was previously a FW also. I actually bartered for it. I put up a web site for somebody in exchange for the aquarium setup. When I got the aquarium, it had one 48" fluorescent bulb. I switched the tank to SW as soon as I moved it into my home. I started it out as a FOWLR. I did not change the lighting until recently.

My goal now is to add some corals to the tank. I am currently making preparations to do so. I added PC lighting. I'm increasing the flow and water movement. I also have to get the water chemistry corrected.

At any rate, I didn't get any coralline to grow on my lr until I installed the PC lighting. Even the low-light corals require a good deal of light.

I am by NO means any kind of an expert. I am just learning about reefkeeping myself. I've learned quite a bit from reading the General Reefkeeping Discussion board.
