55 gal in progress

Here's a quick reference of our 55 gallon tank in progress. As of now we are 2 weeks into the cycling process, using uncured LR to cycle.

55 gallon all glass tank
wet/dry filter with bio-balls removed
return pump is aquaclear 802 (400gph)
2 regent powerheads (150gph each)
1 powerhead from demolished protein skimmer used for extra circulation
rated at approx 300gph
Odyssea combo lights w/ 2 65w 12K and 2 65w actinic blue
AquaC Remora skimmer w/Maxi-Jet 1200 pump (not installed yet, just bought to replace one hubby broke)
Approx 80lbs live rock
3-4" sand bed

use RO water from Wally World for all changes/additions
reef crystals salt
no additives yet
temp runs pretty steady at 80F
We don't run the lights much yet, except to stare at rocks impatiently waiting! Only one inhabitant so far, a blue leg hermit that hitchhiked in on LFS rock. Had a very small shrimp (possibly pistol, hitchhiker also) but haven't seen him since the one time, think he probably did not make it. We will be running mostly softies and shrooms to start with, but hope to upgrade to LPS and SPS in about 6-8 months or so. Hubby has plans for adding MH light to tank before then. We will obviously need more water flow before adding stonies also, just using the small PH's because they were cheap at Wally's. I know the rule about not wasting money on cheap stuff but they can be used on daughter's FW tank later. We have tests on order also, but figure we won't need them for a little while, it's sooo hard to be patient! I'll see if hubby will post some pics when he gets home, I am not very good at resizing them.

Any comments or suggestions feel free to post away! My hubby and I have been very impressed with all of the information and friendly people on these boards, thanks for all your help!

good start. It wont take long to get it kicked up. If its corals your after, just go ahead and get a t5 retro fit or t5 tek kit lighting. It will be all you need to grow whatever coral you like. If its fish, what you have for lighting will work and it will work for some soft corals, i.e., mushrooms, toadstools, colt coral and some zoanthids. HTH

Thanks for the encouragement guys! Can't wait to get something a bit more lively in there (even clean-up crew is more interesting to watch than rocks! LOL). As for the lighting upgrade it will have to wait a bit longer. I am in the process of changing jobs so spending needs to be discreet for the moment.
