50 GAL Tank for Octopus

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum but I've been a reader for a while now. I had a question for anyone who has ever kept an octo. I have been planning on getting one but I'm having trouble finding a good tank. Here's a link to one I found on the PetSmart website, would this be a good one to start with??

http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...N=2030101&Ne=2

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

You need to be able to lock the top because they are strong and smart!I bet if you told them the # to a combo lock ,he'd get out!

I agree on a good sealed top, I think that tank would work great. If You have not already done the research do it and then think about if you really want one. They are cool and I never had one. I know they have a short life span in the wild as well as in the aquarium.

WELCOME TO TRT!!!

best site I've found for info on octo's

when the site is up

the key is to have great water
so a good skimmer is a must in case it inks

and an escape proof top

I have a 65 hex with a good sealed top that would be excellent. All it needs is sand and roack and you are ready to go. I am selling all for around $100.

they are really smart so when it gets used to you, you might be able to teach it some tricks. make sure you always have the water on hand to do at least a 75% WC if it inks. you also need to stack the LR so it is really stable or it might pull the rocks down on itself... and on a final note... they convert 80% of what they eat to growth so don't be surprised if it grows really fast.

50 is really small to keep an octupus.... the minimum would be maybe 100gal

also... octupus only live about 6 months in aquariums... just FYI
