The algae growth is a normal reaction to high levels of nitrate in the tank. I always have left the lights on when cycling. It promotes the growth of other life in the tank.

I noticed earlier in the thread you had copper tubing hanging off of your RO? Are you using copper tubing in your plumbing? If so "remove it and use nylon tubing or something inert.

sweet tank. wow! you could add some more reef janitors to help with algea.. red algea sounds like it could be a diatom issue.. start of a small bloom?

http://www.garf.org/diatom.html

Maybe not.. but I had just read that page and was like "oh, hey.."

again, hats off to you and your sweet 210.. can't wait to see it after 6 months. whew.

we have 175 black snails...10 turbo snails...10 various shrimp..and 10-15 crabs...They are working away on the red algae but when the lights are on it seems the red algae is worse....I just dont want this stuff to take over the tank.....Im wondering if more water changes is needed????also should I remove this stuff from the tank by suction??

Is the red algae cyano? If it is, then you can siphon it out. Water changes will help, but you need to get to the root of the nutrient problem. I went thru a cyano outbreak about 6 months ago, and that is when I went to 2 water changes a week. The cyano disappeared after 2 months.

OOps my bad, maybe I should have gone thru this whole thread before I opened my mouth. In that case I am thinking you should just let nature take it's course, it is probably part of the cycle, sorry I jumped the gun.
