Where do you mount your ballasts?
I received my equipment for my new tank yesterday. Yahoooooo.
Pumps and lighting.
Icecap660 and a PFO HQI ballast (Heavy)
I was planing on mounting the ballasts on top of my custom wood canopy, but now I see how heavy the MH ballast is there is no way I am going to mount something that heavy on the top.
It is big as well. Where should I mount this ballast?
Not alot of room in the stand wit the 20G high sump. Tank is a 58 (36x18x21).
Where should I mount the icecap as well?
thanks

i mounted the 2 ballasts for my 400w MH in the crawl space below the house. i do not know if you have a way or want to drill a hole in the floor or a wall to put them in another room.

I have the ballasts sitting on the back part of the hood. the back part of the hood does not open so I don't have to lift the weight of the ballasts. I added a trim piece to hide the ballasts and electrical stuff. Another idea is to put them on a shelf behind or off to the side of the tank.

My ballasts are mounted to a board that sits in the bottom of a bookcase.

My PFO currently sits on the floor behind my tank, directly on the carpet (My tank sits in a corner, so there is room behind it). I made a PVC "shelf" to place it on, because I didn't feel comfortable having it sit directly on the carpeted floor, but it was actually too loud this way. I didn't notice any great deal of heat being generated, so I think it will be fine sitting on the floor.
My hellolights VHO ballast is mounted inside my stand, under the tank.

My MH ballasts are either below the tank or beside the stand. My Icecap VHO ballast is mounted to the back of the hood but if I had it to do over it would be remotely mounted.

Under the tanks in the stands with drip loops both for the remote wiring to the lights and the power supply. The switches/times are in seperate waterproof boxes near the doors.

400 watt on the floor under the stand. 2 advance electronic ballast in the canopy, but I use a plexy shield so not to get any salt spray. I have plenty of light and airation
