Question

Ratio of Actinic to Iwasaki 6500 K

I'm looking for opinions here. I have 2 400 watt 6500K Iwasakis. I always heard that a ratio of 2W 6500K Iwasaki to 1 W Actinic looks good. Any opinion? I know that 4 : 1 is useless. Does 2 : 1 look good? Opinions please.

Thanks,

Bill

Mine is roughly 2:1 and I think it looks pretty good. I suppose by now everyone knows that Iwasaki made a change to their bulbs a little over a year ago that makes them burn whiter.

Talking

I have two 400W Iwasaki 6500Ks supplemented with six 140W actinic VHOs, 1:1 I guess, over my 225 gal. and would still like more blue when the MHs are on I do have the newer Iwasaki bulb and I agree it does burn whiter but mine are getting a little long in the tooth and I'm sure that plays a part in my wanting more actinic. JME.

I am running 3 250 Watt Iwasakis with 320 watts of actinic VHO. I could stand to add a little more blue, but it does not look too bad as it is.

RickO, If I put in 4 x 96W actinic 03s and my tank color looks like the pictures of yours, I will be extremely happy! My Iwasakis are only 2 months old so they may be the new ones. Any suggestion where to get "true" 96 W Actinic 03 PC bulbs?

Thanks,

Bill

That should look great. Sorry but I can't help you with your question about the pc actinics.

My actinics are over two years old so I'm sure I would benefit from new bulbs. I may try to figure out how to cram two more in there while I'm at it. It's already tight though.
