MH wiring

This is what I did. As you can see in the picture, I connected the MH lights Black, white and ground to the Ballasts respective black, white and ground.

THEN I took the black white and ground from the ballast and connected them to the power box which is connected to a respective white, black and ground which goes to the wall.

Coming out of the box is a timer. It has black and white wire. I connected it to the power box’s black and white which goes to the wall.

It did not work. What did I do wrongly?

THe power supplied to your ballast should be seprated from the MH itself. In your drawing they are all tied together! You also show a red and yellow from the Ballast, Please identify what they are labled? You should see a schematic on the bottom of the ballast

The yellow shows to go to a 277v. The guy who had the ballast before me (bought used obviously) had the yellow taped off.

How do I separate the ballast from the MH? Do I have the wiring from the light to the ballast set up right?

The black and white lines go to the lamps
there should several yellows one labeled common
and find the other labeled 120v
Those are the two you need.
Tie the two common together and the two 120v together the attach them to a plug end and plug them in.

Ok, you will need to supply the timer with 120VAC from an outlet. On the switch side(or timer side), however there should be a lead for the hot, neutral and ground, the grounds may be common to both. The power from the outlet should NOT be common with the power going to the ballast, they should be on timing circuit or switch connections. Now your showing only 4 wires brom the ballast, I'm not sure what is going on with that, I will need more information, look on the bottom of the ballast to see if there is a schematic. I can guess from what I see, maybe but that would be it. Is there ANY more wires than that?
