So, 6.5k over 10k and 20k. Does it look really white? And double ended bulbs are "better" right? do they give more par? If a dual 250watt mogul PFO ballast is available for 145, and the HQI ballast is 225, is it worth the price difference. If any of you have time, i would love if you could check out marinedepot.com under PFO halide ballasts, and tell me what you think! Thanks! Nice info Tom!

In the long run, the electricity for the PFO is the killer. Using the Icecap or equivalent electronic HQI ballast will be the best buy, they are quiet, don't make all the heat that the PFO ballast does, will run ANY MH bulb rated at the wattage of the ballast (250 watts for 24" or less depth), and will be cheaper to operate.

I just got rid of 6 coil and cap ballasts this year (after a while, they start to get loud, like the street lights that have seen one to many electral storms) and replaced them all with icecaps, planning to get 3 more for the new lagoonal system as well.

Shop around, they're available for less than $225 US on the net.

Tom, that was such a great post on light attenuation - Thanks!!!

While we're on ballasts; I see a few dual ballasts, but never see triple ballasts (for 3 mhs), does anyone know if they exist?
