Question

JBJ lighting ?? Good Choice ??

I saw this up on ebay and was wondering if this would do for a 16 gallon tank ? I wanted to eventually add soft corals.

NEW 19" JBJ 72WATT POWER COMPACT LIGHTING

The tank is 20x19x10

25lbs of LR
1.5"- 2" LS

Also this may be a stupid/newbie questions but I see VHO and some other lights. What do they stand for/do? Also how many watts per gallon? Sorry but this whole lighting thing throws me off....any advise would be great....

NO= normal outout flour lowest light output

VHO= Very High Output flour lighting flour lights that put out an iomense amount of light

PC= Power Compact more light than VHO supposedly ( the jurors are still out there have been all kinds of studies and all ) comperable to VHO basically

MH= Metal Halide very intense light more like the sunlight.

HQI= another type of MH that uses a double ended bulb supposed to be even more light than standard MH lighting.

I have no experience with JBJ but if the K ratings on the bulbs are 6500k or higher then it would be a good setup. just stay away from clams and SPS corals that need a brighter coral.

My first PC lighting was a JBJ, and I liked it very much. So did the corals, cause they did grow quite well after all.

the blues are normally actinic it penetrates the water deeper than the white ligts giving the corals more light to work with so to speak.
I got my PC's from ahsupply there have good overall prices and cutomer service so if you might check into them the only things is that they are retrofit kits so you need a canopy or something to mount them in.
the ballast kit for 2 36 watt pc bulbs wires plugs and reflectors is $62.00 bulbs run $14-$17 so if you can DIY then its a better deal I think cause its got a warranty LOL. littlebit cheaper also.
both are a good deal though.
I would since you only got a chopice of white and blue get one of each.
IMO

the red is for night time veiwing other than that it really doesnt have a purpose in a marine tank. the red spectrum alot of creatures cant see so the dont get scared when you shine it on them. espically the ones that only come out at night.
Mike
if you can get a true actinic 03 get that but I dont know if the make it for a 36 watt yet. its the blue.
and a 10K or 20 K I like the looks of the 6500k+ or the 10K bulbs

36 16.3" 5300K11365 $19.99
36 16.75" 6700K 11366 $13.99
36 16.4" Medium Blue 11367 $17.99
36 16.5" 10000K/Dark Blue Combo 13617 $17.99

So I should just get 2 blues ? Or a blue and a white ? Sorry if these questions are stupid but I am lost when it comes to lighting...

either the 6700K and Medium blue
or the combo bulb which is 50/50 I am not a big fan of the 50/50 but on that small of a tank it would probably look at light the tank better.

IMO I would go the 50/50 it has both the white and the blue together. part 13617 that way you get both.

Glad to be of service, it's a reputable retailor instead of some no name selling on ebay, which definitely doesn't hurt either.

I got all my PC from ahsupply but it was for a larger tank this light setup is designed to fit a small tank with a lot of light going into it.,
