Help with hanging light fixture
Can anybody suggest how to hang a 65 lb. fixture from the ceiling where one end has a stud but the other does not line up. Will a drywall anchor of some sort work? Suggestions needed please. Here is an attempt to recreate what it looks like with the 2x4 studs in the ceiling covered by 1/2" drywall.

I don't think I would use a drywall anchor..Is it possible to mount a board between those two studs and then anchor the fixture to the new stud..all assuming if you can get above to where the studs are located..If not I'll let someone else figure it out..hehe..

There are a number of different type of drywall anchors. I would go to your local hardware store and tell them what you are trying to do. It is best to hang it from a stud, but you can get by without.

There isn't any way to get above through the attic. How much weight can drywall hold assuming you used those anchors that spread out above the drywall?

A few questions. on the end with out the stud, are you hanging from 1 spot or 2? If it is 2 spots over a few inches then there is no problem, if it is just 1 wire on each end then it probably would hold, just make sure you hang the stud end first. Can you add a mounting line in the middle of the fixture?

The fixture has only one hanging point on each end. It came with two pieces of wire with which to hang. Thanks for the help guys.
I don't think I could add a third line. There are ventilation slits cut into the top directly in the middle.

with the 2 lines on each end you should be fine with some good anchors. They are only holding about 18#'s each, and that is not too much weight.

There is only one wire for each end which would hold about 32 lbs. each. I am off to Home Despot to see what I can come up with. Thanks and wish me luck.

I found a website that says a 1/8" toggle bolt can hold up to 50 lbs. on 1/2" drywall. Can anybody vouch for this?
Thanks

Toggle bolt should work fine. Although if there is an attic above I would put a 2"x 4" between the joists to support the weight.
