Question

BLOWN 250 watt Blueline

Anybody have experience with new bulbs just quiting?
mine are about 2 wks old, one began to have trouble starting one day, the next day it wouldnt start I switched sides to make sure it wasnt the ballast the bulb will just light in the center,
so for 4 days ive been running on one bulb well now the other did the same thing .

what kind of ballast are you using? it seems a little strange to blow bulbs that fast.

It is all covered just seems odd to lose both bulbs ,new ones are on the way,the LFS thinks its bad bulbs I just hope theres no underlying prob.

having two bulbs do the same thing, on a new unit, within a week. sounds more to me like a bad ballast.

i'd ask about getting that replaced as well, assuming that too is covered. just my opinion though.

The other thing that may be causing the problem is voltage. Do you have your lights on the same circuit as everything else in yoour tank. This draw of powr may be causing a drop in voltage enough to make your bulbs flicker and go out. Try plugging your lights into a circuit that has very little or nothing drawing on it

Believe it or not this is a common problem with magnetic ballasts

When you say ( go out ) do you mean temp. or permanently?
I have never seen them flicker or see them restart.

typically they will flicker and go out. Once there out they need to cool down before they can be restarted. Anywhere between 10-20 Mins.

I had a problem with a CSL ballast about a year ago. I contacted CSL and they replaced it no questions asked that very same day.

Ok just wanted to update everyone w/ the lighting situation,
got 2 new Blue line bulbs in ,one would light in the center the other would do nothing.
next tried a new ballast, nope same deal
The LFS has been great, as they have loned me a PC while we get this figured out, ive also been using my 2 110 VHO
but it sure would be nice to get some light,I had just put in a tongue coral before I lost my lights hope it will be OK
22 days $$$$$ gone & no lights
