Are 250watt Mhs too much for most softies?

This seems like a beginners question that a pro *cough cough* like me (just kiddin! ) should ask. But since i'm veering away from sps because i haven't had much luck(although it was only 1 acro that i got in poor condition and died six months later ), i'm wondering if that light will be too much for the average leathers, Xenids, Ricordia, etc....
Thanks!

No, actually 250's are not- at least in our tank. We have a mixed tank, and the xenia's are near the top, the ricordias are on the bottom along with some zoos but then there are some zoos up on high - just depends on the animal.

The answwer is YES IMO.

Along the lines of what Casey said,,,i have a mixed 75 with 2 400w Mh's and 4-55W pc actinics,,,everything is happy, SPS's leathers, zoo's,xenia,Green Star polyps,'shrooms, plus a lil bit of everything else, when i switched from normal flo lighting to what i have now,i just started short light duration, and went from there (12 hrs) no probs at all, everything is open,growing/dividing etc.
what size tank, and how far away from the surface are the lights?

Wow, talk about oppisite opinions! Casey, the tank is still broken down. Rock is looking good. It's been 3 weeks. Do you think 4 weeks is enough, or should it be longer? Well, so, are the shrooms gonna be fried, or not?

Yeah, its just the conditions in the 45g holding tank aren't great. I lost the acro, though he was off to a bad start from the beggining. Also all the fish in there are kinda crowded. How long does it take for all of the algae strands to die out, from the nook and cranies in the rock? I think the rock has jetesoned it's detritus, i can't find any on the bottom and the water tests good.
