Uv Sterilizer

I want to put uv sterilizers on a 90g and 29g. I just need to know what the proper wattages would be for each and any good brands i could choose from. I'm going to use them for the elimination of parasites, bacteria, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong but the flow rate should be 3 to 4 times the actual gallons in the tank. Thanks for any info!

100 gal X 4 turnovers = UV rated to kill parasites at a 400gph flow rate.

Here's a accurate sizing chart

so what your saying is that the wattge is not important. just the flow rate.

Nooooooo

Wattage decides how fast the water can move through the UV, that's what decides that flow rate.

I would like to know the answer to this too. Has anyone used this model: DOUBLEHELIX 36 watt UV Sterilizer?? There are some on ebay that seem to be a decent price compared to what I've seen. But if these brands are like Seaclones, then I believe I will look elsewhere.

I use the 18 watt Custom Sealife double helix on my 54 gallon tank. Of course, I have no idea whether it really is good, bad or neutral...and no other UV experience to compare it with.

I did read very recently that the company either went out of business, or was acquired by another company.

One weird problem I had with the sterilizer is that the internal reflector degraded, with resulting dust collecting inside the chamber...because it apparently couldn't withstand the UV exposure. The company told me they subsequently stopped using the reflectors, but the dust causes no harm. So, when I replace the bulb (every 6 months), I get rid of the dust.
