Im thinking about getting an RO/DI do i really need a 5 stage one or can I get away with one of the smaller 2 stage units? Whats the significance in the extra stages?

Depends on your water and how much of it you need, Shack.

Got silicates? we do.

I would call a couple of companies and compare. Tell them what you have and need, and let their technical support guide you from there.

I picked up the value line 4 stage ro/di from www.aquaticreefsystems.com and it works great. I also got a tds meter and after running a few gallons out of the new filters I had a reading of 0. I will say that the filters lasted pretty long for me. I had them in for about 8 months and usually run about 80-100g a month in it and my reading was still at 4 but I changed the filters out anyway. The system was under 200 bucks, not sure what the current price is on it. My tds reading from the tap was around 210 last I checked.

HTH's,

IMHO ARS is the best in the biz. Great customer service.

I started with the 3 stage unit for $119.00

http://www.aquaticreefsystems.com/di...se_osmosis.htm

one year later I just added a DI unit onto the system as well.

I recommend getting a TDS meter with your unit. It takes all the guess work out and lets you know how things are running. I bought the $39 unit and really like the easy of use
http://www.aquaticreefsystems.com/TDS_Meters.htm

shoot, if you instist on spending 200 bucks you can get the 4 stage ro/di and the TDS meter.

good luck
