Remora or CPR

I have forty gallon tank with mainly lps and softies in it. I sold my old skimmer for 25 dollars because it barely work. Anyways i have saved enough money to buy a CPR BAKPAK, to replace the old skimmer. I am wondering if i should save up more money to buy a remora skimmer. Would this be a good idea? Im not sure which is the better skimmer, i have heard great reviews about both. One other thing i was considering was re-doing my current tank, and switching over from an lps dominated tank, to a sps dominated tank. Would the BAKPAK be a good enough skimmer to fit the sps's needs, or would the Remora be a better choice?

TIA

I had ok luck with a bakpak for a little while, but mine is hitting the trash can this weekend. I got a home made air stone skimmer now. It should do a lot better.

I just can't get any good quality dry foam out of the bakpak.

Save up and get the Remora Pro it is definitely worth it. And if you ever go bigger than 75 gallon it will grow with your tank. If you watch reefcentral or the classifieds here or on eBay you might be able to pick up one used for a decent price. Make sure you get the one with the MAG3 pump anything less and you will regret it later. I have the Remora Pro with the MAG3 and I love it. Works awesome. JMHO.

I have had both the cpr and the remora. I would save a few bucks and get the remora. With the remora all you will need to do is put it on your tank and your set to plug it in. The cpr you will need to play around with the air flow mixture a little. They both have easy adjustable cups so that is a plus. I think the remora in general pulled more out of my tank then the cpr. I currenty have just the remora not the pro on my 90g. I wanted the pro but with 2 emperor 400's on the back I didn't think it would fit. I get about 1/3 - 1/2 a cup a week out of it and its usually nice and dark looking. HTH

Tkanks for the replies guys, i think i will take your advice and save up. The pump that comes with the one i am ordering is a MAXI JET 1200. How exacly do you hook up the mag 3 to the skimmer? BTW this skimmer will be HOTB skimmer.

Are you getting the Remora Pro or the Remora. The MAG3 connects to the H.O.T. intake tube with a piece of PVC Threaded hose and uses plastic hose clamps.

I would really reccomend the Remora Pro. You will have the ability to grow with moves to a larger thank and you will have better skimming with the Pro. If you are dead set on the Remora I have one brand new in the box I bought to use on a 45 Bowfront and ended up not buying the bowfront. It has the MaxiJet 1200 I will sell it to you for $165.00 shipped. Let me know.
