A little story to relate-------------------- About a year ago I bought this wonder product called a Power Sweep 228
Power head and a couple of months later I read alot of articles and postings on threads dealing with this power head and found out it is not that great. It was suppose to be great as a cheaper means of having a wave maker!
So yesterday I decided to try out this "wonder" powerhead and it worked quite well. I got up this morning and it was still sweeping from side to side. Anyways a few minutes ago I looked over and noticed my large gorgonian seemed to be in a under water hurricane and then I noticed the power head was not sweeping as it was froze in one position.
I noticed some fine sand near the rotating head and knew right off my not so well liked large
female maroon clown had send up a sand storm from the DSB and some of the fine sand must of lodged in the rotating mechanism and seized it up.
The power sweep did keep my corals clean of detritous and sand which was good but keeping it going will be a problem with my sand blaster maroon clownfish!
Substituting a cheaper method to accomplish what you want usually comes back to bite you. I seem to have a problem in that area!
Just thought I would share this with you great people and to let those getting into the hobby what problems these powerheads present and have been contemplating getting one of these as they are still on the market. Thanks for reading!
