It was very dirty and caked with crusty stuff. Tom's instructions got it cleaned up. I also changed the battery, but that wasn't the problem.

BTW Shirley, Craig B has a post in one of the old
Aquarium Frontiers articles on using 20 Mule Team borax as a buffer standard and an electrode testing solution, it works great for cheking the meter and it is absolutely accurate, cheap, and easy to use.

Interesetingly enough, the pH electrodes I have should be by all rights totally shot, but are still withing 0.05 of the new meter I just bought.

Go figure, the KCl shoud have disappeared brom the electrodes eons ago. Heh, the DSB must be full of Mercury (or Silver nitrate) by now...
