Question

mr1 arrived today - micro bubbles help

My MR1 arrived today - super nice and packaged great - I have her hooked up with the needle valve opened up all the way and the gate valved adjusted where recommended, but the skimmer is continuously releasing tons of micro bubbles. Is there a break in period ? or can you think of anything I can adjust to help. I'll try Andy in the morning but thought someone might have an idea.

Running on a submersed sen 900

thanks...

You're either running too much water through it too fast. The air and water are not having time to separate in the separation chamber on the bottom.

You've got too much air going through it.

You need to shut the drain gate valve and raise the water level higher in the skimmer.

OR, all of the above.

thanks Spanky - I think it might be (d) all of the above - still not sure though. I was able to reduce them somewhat but there are still to many. Amazing, even running like this I can already see the junk building and working its way towards the collection cup. I'm going to give the tank a break and try again tomorrow. With all the bubbles the corals are sliming pretty bad and the fish are looking at me like they're ready to jump overboard.

thanks again...

Try Andy now.

It is a break in thing....the best way to dial in the skimmer is to close the needle valve 100%. Then adjust the water height in the skimmer with the gate valve...maybe slightly higher than you want it. Then, open the needle valve. This will lower the water height slightly. The baffles in your sump should take care of most of the bubbles exiting. Once the skimmer gets some "sludge" in the skimmer box, the bubbles will dissipate also.

Excellent Andy thanks, I'll continue adjusting away. Just to clarify - do I want the water column "ending" within the riser just below the collection cup or is it the riser just above the base box. This is great quality and like I said, in spite of me messing with it I can already see it working.

You want the water level about 2" above the skimmer black box. That is where the water line should be and the bubbles really turn milky white.

Everyones mileage varies...I have had them take 7 days or take 3 minutes....just depends....maybe we had extra greasy fingers building yours. It truly depends...
