Interesting observation of hydro-dynamics
This past weekend I dumped the "drop in" Rios. The Rios were 2500s I think. One went directly to one return, the other went to the chiller , then the other return. Each Rio had a 750 g/h rating.
So I replaced the Rios with a Gen X Mach 4 1390 g/h external. The noise level was reduced to just the sound of water spilling into the overflow box. Mission accomplished. But I ran the return to the chiller, then from the chiller I split two lines to the two returns. The chiller was always on and running very hot.
I guess the velocity of the water flow was going through the chiller to fast and proper heat transfer was not taking place. The water would just exit at pretty much the same temp as it went in. Tonight I will try a splitter before the chiller. One line from the pump, split with one to a return, the other to the chiller, then to the other return. I'm hoping the slower water velocity will improve the efficiency on the chiller.
