Does a valve like this exist?
Is there a valve that I can put in line that would shut off the water flow to the tank if the power goes out. I would like to run my RO/DI directly into the tank as a top off. If the power goes out, the tanks water level would fall as it reaches equilibrium, I do not want my water top off to continually fill the tank while the power is out.
I hope I am making sense here. I have tried google with various combinations of words and have not found anything, but it is always hard to find something when you do not know what it could be called.

podman-why not feed into your sump?
I am going to be plumbing it in directly to the house water, going through an RO/DI first. I will have a float valve to control when the water will be added. I am just afraid that if the power goes out the water will go down and cause the top-off to keep filling. Then when the power comes back on there will now be to much water in the system.
Thanks, I will search for actuated valves.

i guess my question is, why not put a float actuated valve in the sump and when a power failure is present, the valve will not open as the water in the sump will be higher than normal orperating elevation, thus circumventing the salinity issue.
having it in the main tank seems unnecessary.

Podman-my sump/refugium is actually higher than the tank. I actually did a test run of the system over the weekend and it I accidentally got all of the flows right and the tank reaches equilibrium quicly without the sump/refugium overflowing into the tank, and therefore overflowing the tank.
The pic below shows what it looks like in the test run, it is filled with FW just to test before being built into the fireplace. You are looking at the backside of the refugium. I was afraid the sump/refugium would have a water level higher than the drain ports, so that when the power went out the sump level would drop to drain ports causing the tank to overflow. Luckily the water level is right at the drain ports so the water level inside the tank barely raises at all when I pull the plug on the pump.
I hope it now makes sense with the pic.
Etech-Thanks, I am going to have a look at those sprinkler valves, I think it would be a great safety margin for me.
Thanks,
G~

Wow, when I try to post a smaller pic than that it gets rejected. Then again I dont understand the bytes vs image size thing
