Does anyone have a home made drip system they could explain. I want a simple way to add top off and kalkwasser in my system slowly and none of the LFS seem to have one for me. I attempted to make one and failed but figured it could be done fairly easily. Has anyone done this at home.

Well now that you asked <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
I use a simple spice container with a lit. Attach some airline tubing to it with a nipple and a IV doser and your there I usually put small holes in the lid to prevent a vacume. I have seen ppl use 5 gallon (unused) Gas cans as Kalk drippers.
Oh BTW I use a sep. container to mix and settle in so as not to get the crap at the bottom. I also use the Ball's Pickling lime instead of the Kalk.

HTH need more info Please feel free to email me belchers65@home.com

FWIW, kalk dripped from a nonsealed (IV bag) will mix with ambient CO2 and drop pH quickly and leave nasty formations of Calcium Carbonate in the reservoir, needless to say it loses effectiveness real soon that way.

Question

What about an actual sealed IV bag? I was planning on using an actual 1000 ml saline IV system complete with drip chamber to drip Kalkwasser. Tried it with RO but not Kalk yet.

I used to drip/siphon it out of a 1 gallon tank into my sump as makeup water controlled by a plastic float valve.I just saw that kent Marine makes a dripper in 2.5 and 5 gallon sizes. On sale for under 20$ in the "thatfishplace" catalog.

IV bag is the most effective cheap way to go, the bag is sealed off from outside air and collapses as it drains. The other desirable option is a "Nilsen Reactor" See Bill-E's website for info, also a closed system with no outside air so less degradation of kalk in the long run. The other methods listed work( I used similar) but not as effective, FWIW
