I am not an expert but... The brass should not be a problem if it is out of the tank, but I would try to use plastic and change to plastic when you can.

like doug1 said it should be fine, but you want to replace as soon as you can. you do not want to be using fittings of such different hardness together if you are ever going to take them apart or put them together again. it is really easy to strip out the plastic side with the brass end even without knowing it.

most of the parts are all standardised. the fittings on the unit are usually 1/4". the wrench i think is also standard, if not any of those new strap wrenches should work fine for removing the media housings.

You can try calling one of the places that specializes in RO/DI units and order the part from them. Also look in your phonebook and see if anyone local deals in RO/DI units and give them a call.

No harm intended... I saw the "winking" smiley face on your post and figured you were kidding around about only finding them at fish stores... lol I actually did start laughing...
