Anyone had experience with AquaC skimmers?
http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewIt...idProduct=ACRM
Looks pretty cool...anyone ever used one of these before? Do they work well? Better than the red sea berlin skimmers?
If not, any recommendations for a skimmer for a 40 gallon reef...preferably pump driven (airstone skimmers are a pain)
Thanks!

believe it or not that is the skimmer on my 120 long ago. It is a great skimmer an would kick butt on a 40 gallon.

I use the Aqua C Remora Pro on my 55. It replaced a Skilter so, Yeah! It kicks b..... One of the nice features of this skimmer is that it is very low maintainence. All I do is empty and clean the collection cup. In the 3+ years I've had it, I've only pulled it off once to clean the injection port- but it didn't really need it-I just wanted to see what it looked like. One thing I will say about it is that you probably should buy the upgrade Magdrive pump. I opted for the cheaper Rio and it has had some problems-mostly just real noisey.

I have one on my 50 gallon tank. Works great, really no adjustments other than raising and lowering the collection cup. I recently upgraded the original Rio 800 pump with a Maxi-Jet 1200. Works a bit better with the Maxi-Jet plus I was having start-up problems with the Rio.
I have mine hanging on the sump (an Amiracle wet/dry converted to a sump) so it does make a little bit of noise due to the waterfall effect of the return. It is about 5 inches above the waterline. Mine is the regular Remora, not the Pro model. I have read some positive things about the optional pre-skimmer, although it would not work with my setup, you would have to have it hanging off the back of the tank. I would have to alter my canopy to fit the skimmer on the back where it is designed to go.

I have the remora on my 20G and it is GREAT. I agree about the pump upgrade as well. I opted for the RIO and now wish I had the MaxiJet. THe setup is easy and you can be slimmnig in 20 or so seconds. WORTH the $$$$$$$$$$

I just got my Urchin Pro last week. Just to let you know, reefgeek has the same prices on those as marinedepot, but with free shipping.

I've had an AquaC Remora with the MJ 1200 upgrade on my 55 for about 4 years. Absolutely no problems and does a good job, though the Pro model would probably be better for the 55. Should be just right for a 40.

I have the Remora Pro on my 37 with a MJ 1200. Awesome skimmer, does a great job, but mine does release some microbubbles into the tank.
I also have the EV-120 on my 120 and it's also awesome. Took a little while to break in, but I'm very happy with it. I use a Mag5 with it!

I have the Urchin in sump version of the remora and it works great....I love how easy the collection cup is to remove, and adjust...

I have had the Remora Pro for about 3 months and like the job it does. However, it is a noisy sucker. I also bought the surface skimmer for it and am sorry. I took it out as the collection box was too big for a 55 gal tank. The upgraded 350 pump works great and I love the job it does.

I bought the pre-skimmer/bubble-trap for mine but no longer use it. I found it doesn't work too well in a sumpless system unless you have an automatic topoff system to keep the water level the same. I don't so the water level kept dropping (1/2" per day) due to evaporation and would leave the pump running dry. I don't have a problem with bubbles return anyway, but, if you do you can use a sponge in the outflow to trap air. I like the free-flow sponges such as the Aquaclear filter sponges or similar type filter sponges.
