welectrical shock in tank from pump

Can anyone suggest a good in tank pump for my skimmer . I bought a pump in Npvember and this is the second time it is I guess shorting out. I put it in after cleaning it and 3 hrs later checked the tank put my hand in the tank and received a small constant shock. I think it is an americle skimmer I have had it for years.
Thanks

Mike which pump are you using to power the skimmer?
DO you have a ground probe and most importantly is the tank on a GFCI circuit???????

Hi Mike. I'm also curious as to what brand of pump it is and are you sure that the shock is coming from the pump? I like Mags for submersibles.

I was the one with the Powerhead that shorted out. It was a RIO 1400, about a year or so old. It blew a little black hole right thruogh the casing, but it was covered up by the label so it was not visible until I pulled it out and inspected it very closely.

Funny thing is that it was still running?

In total between my sump, protein skimmer etc, etc, and all of the in tank water movers I have about 12 running. Only one of them was a RIO. So I guess it will be my last.

No GFCI on that plug yet. Yes it was coming from the pump, when I unplug it the shock goes away.
And YES it is my second Rio. And the first died after about 6 years, they don't make them like they used to. Any suggestions.
Thank You

I am just about asleep but I would recomend a MAg pump, but I don't know what size you would need.

I have a mag driving my skimmer (size to be determined) and one for my return pump (1800) and a spare (750) and I am deleriously happy with them. They are easy to keep clean, hardly break down, and I just recently found out that you can use them as submersibles AND inlines!!! WOW. Hows THAT for flexibility?!?!?

Mag Drives are also sold as PondMaster brand pumps too.

No I am not a sales person for Magdrive/PondMaster
