Weekend Plumbing Questions

Finally got my Sump. 35 Total Galons with a 5 inch DSB in it. My problem is now plumbing. I got a piece of 3 foot Flexible hosing and it is going to attach to the overflow and drain into the sump just to the right of the tank in a seperate wardrobe closet.

For my return tho, I was thinking 2 two footers of the same stuff to make it to the top of the tank and then to build a PVC Manifold to distribute the water to two different outlets and have a ball valve to regulate flow a little.

I tried home depot but did not find alot of the nifty plumbing fixtures i see alot of you use.

Are there any suggestions for me when doing this. The tubing has a rubber end that can be attached to possibly a 90 of pvc that would be threaded onto the other end to screw into a pump. Yet i notice not all pumps concidered usable for a return have threaded ends.

Suggestions on Pump for a Overflow that averages between 350 and 500 gallons Per Hour would be great! Im merely days away from plugging in the new Euroreef and tossing my power heads :P

Thanks in advance.!

Joe

Joe...

you will want to use smaller diameter tubing for your return, not the same as your feed to your sump....I would use a Mag 5 for your return, and as far as your return, You could get a PVC fixture that would be a female threaded on one side, and connect it to a PVC pipe...you might have to jimmy rig it a bit...I am looking to do something similar...I have a Mag 3, and I want to connect a relief valve in case of a power outage, and I will need to splice in a section of PVC to do this...I f I cant I will just drill a small hole near the exit of the return

Joe, how much water is your return capable of draining? You need to figure in the flow loss to head height. What is the ID(inner diameter) of the drain hose? Keep in mind corrogated tubing has more friction loss If the drain hose is 1" then you should tink in terms of 3/4" ID hose for the return. Any of the larger Mag pumps should take a 3/4 barb fitting and you can use the same on your manifold.

Joe,

Try the McClendons in Renton. I was like a kid in a candy store,. They have a great selection of PVC plumbing including all the ball valves. They even had check valves for 1.5" and 2" pipe.

Good luck.

Us the 3/4, that will fit the hose barb common to most pumps like the Mags
