Question about Overflow Volume.

Hi Guys I Have a Question about Overflow Volume.

I have an AGA RR 75 Gallon Tank that has a corner overflow with a 1 inch drain and 3/4 inch return inside it.
My question is I have an ampmaster 2100 for my 30 gall sump for the return pipe I am am Using 1.5 inch pvc straight up to the top of the tank and T off that to 1 inch pipe on each side of the tank then over the edge and into the tank the pup is rated at 2100 GPH @ 15 foot head and I know the overflow with the 1 inch drain is only capable of like 800-900 GPH I am using a 1 1/4 inch Durso stand pipe on the drain curently and wondered if I can squeeze it in if I put a 1 inch stand pipe on the 3/4 in retrun and turn that ino a second drain if it will increase the capacity of the overflow enough to handle the flow rate of the pump?

Thanks Clay

Take the easy route: Buy a smaller capacity pump, and add another powerhead for flow.

The pump that you have is vastly outstripping the overflow.

I have 2 1" drains on my 75 that would handle the return from a Mag18 @ 4 ft
They ould prolly handle a little more , but if one had been 3/4" I think it would be maxed.
You could valve the pumps output or use the ampmaster to close loop

At minimum I would use 2 1" overflow bulkheads regardless of the gph size of the return pump.

While it may be possible to push that kind of flow, you would be pushing the limits and no room for error. If the single drain were to get clogged or even partially clogged could cause trouble as you have nothing to help compensate.

Redundancy is good.

On my old 190g had 2 1" bulkheads with 1.25" Durso like you mentioned running an Dolphin AquaSea 2700gph. Handled no problem. I did have a situation where one was partially clogged. It probably was like that for quite a while. It caused the 2cd Durso to siphon to increase the flow which was a good thing.

Thanks Guys,
I am using Ball vavles Before the pump comming from the sump ( for closing off the sump for pump removal and maint.) and on the pumps return above a Union then 1 inch ballvavles on the returns for adjusting Flow.

Thanks for your inputs
Clay
