Plexiglass tanks & closed loops?

I've got a new plexiglass tank (new for me) and it's just hit me, the top isn't completely open like a glass tank....

So, how does one hook up a closed loop? Do I need to just plump it like my glass tank where I just plump it up and over the edge and then down into the tank? The problem that I see with this is that it's not at the back of the tank...

Do I have to drill it to get around this?

a closed loop works a whole lot better on acrylic if you drill it top and bottom it not only hides the plumbing but makes the loop more efficient. intake about half way down output where you want your flow. hths

Yep, it does help. Once I looked at it, I wondered what I was thinking....

Now I wonder how safe it is to drill acrylic?

a whole lot safer than glass. a lot of folks drill it with a hole saw, as long as its new

New tank or new hole saw bits?

The tank isn't new (from Aquarium Showcase). I can get the hole saw size needed...

new hole saw. one thing you need to know the whole for your bulkhead is considerably larger than the bulkhead size.
