noise problem

okay my new tank is one of those "jetstream" set ups, the problem is the noise. its not the usual gurgling, this set up has eliminated that. its the noise of the water from the overflow pipe going into the sump, it sounds "fizzy" kinda like a glass of soda. the pipe just dumps directly into the sump. i was thinking of a baffle of some sort. any ideas?? the back of the stand is open so i think i could close it up to quiet it down as well. heres some quick pics if it helps at all : (by the way the tank is a little cluttered right now because of the change over process ie p/h's and therm.)

Well I don't think u will have much luck eliminating the fizz problem, it is from all those bubbles popping. I have my stand all closed up and when the doors are closed the fizzing is much less noticeable, so I think that if you closed up the backof your stand that it would help out

Hi Paul,
Here is just a suggestion: the end of PVC that is going into your sump, take 2 90 degree elbows and attach them to the end forming a U. I had a similar problem on my prop system in the basement and this helped quite a bit. It is a cheap try. Let me know if it helps.

Try closing the ball valve a little to increase the pressure in the pipe, this should clear out the bubbles, as long as you dont close it up too much the extra pressure of the water backing up in the pipe will keep the flow ok to keep the water level in the sump constant. I made the same mistake of using a ball valve rather than a gate valve, they are a lot harder to fine tune to get just the right flow as not to gurgle

You can stick some plastic gutter mesh in the overflow, thats what I did and it quieted right down. I also put a 90 degree tee in the sump at the end of the pipe, pushes water to the side instead of all directions.
