large pump with manifold

My ten gallon sump is just about full, with an in-sump skimmer and pumps for return, a refugium, and Ca reactor. Any problems with just using one big pump and having a manifold with valves to direct the flow to the different areas?

the concept is sound, but i have tried it a couple of times with mixed success. they seem to go out of wack on accasion and one outlet gets more than it should and vice versa. it seems to work fine with 2 different items, but more than that it gets kinda funky.

it could very will be that i pump was underpowered.

Doesn't Dolphin make a manifold just for this?

Yea, and looking at those dolphin manifolds and their prices, I couldn't see why regular PVC wouldn't work just as well, and a h*ll of a lot cheaper, and easier to incorporate valves.
Trouble is, I'm collecting the paraphenalia of unsatisfactory experiments and the price is adding up!

why not build a bigger sump? Rubbermaid comes to mind... ...and 2" pvc manifold the length of the tank with valves on each outlet...

Now that's what I had in mind! As you can see, too much modification of materials at hand and bad decisions upfront. I'm getting a new skimmer next week (Fact is I'm gearing up for a larger tank, thus Ca reactor and new skimmer) I don't even show the additional cabinet that holds my top-off system and electrical switching panel.
I like your arrangement there Tom. Where is your skimmer and Ca doser?

they currently occupy the space above the shutoff for the true union for the dolphin and the empty space to the right of the pump. I built a eggcrate shelf on pvc legs to hold up the Ca reactor. Topoff is with a kalk reactor from a reservoir in the room behind the wall as well as the RO/DI unit and the reservoir for the other tanks.

Having a larger tank does allow for a lot more room under it
