Help! Leaking overflow

I have just added some water to test my plumbing on my 120. I have 2 corner overflows. Both have durso standpipes, but one of them has a small leak in the rear inside corner near the base. Since I have standpipes, should I worry about it since it is small? Should I drain all of the water and re-silicone the area, or do I need to completely uninstall the box, clean off all of the silicone and try again?

Hey Ron....

...to The Reef Tank.

There's a pic of you floating around here somewhere.

I'm not sure I understand exactly where the leak is. I assume it's not leaking into the stand or you would already know the answer to your question. If it's a leak in a joint where the water leaks into the standpipe then I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't glue any of my joints when I installed my standpipes.

So long as the bulkheads are not leaking to the outside, then I wouldn't sweat it. If it really bothers you, you can push some underwater epoxy into the cracks. It may not stop it completly, but it will just about stop most of these types of leaks. Exactly where is it leaking? a photo would be nice.

It is leaking at the base of the corner box, one of the seams that is formed by the acrylic box siliconed to the glass tank.
Sorry, but I no longer have my digital camera.

Hey Rick.

Hey Ron, glad to see you here!

The leak is in the overflow box, between the box and the overflow -- self-contained within the tank.

The only problem I could foresee would be during an extended power failure -- but there would be other issues arising from that!

I completely misunderstood where the leak was up until now. It wouldn't be much trouble to reseal the box, you wouldn't even have to remove it. Just drain all the water, dry the area real good and apply a thick bead of silicone to the area of the leak.

Hey Jenn,
yea, I was looking at the level of the Durso, a few inches below the top of the overflow, and in an extended power outage, I think the level drop will overflow my sump, so I think I will try to fix the leak. After talking to you on the phone then looking at the current sump level, I got concerned.
