Bulkhead leaking...new tank..HELP?
Ok so I am doing my plumbing test after completing my tank setup. I have the tank about half way filled, just above my closed loop drain bulkhead on back. So after running the closed loop system for testing, I am seeing water come out of the sides of the bulkhead on the back. Its not alot, about maybe 1 drip per minute if that, Is this something to be worried about? I cranked the bulkhead down more and it stopped. I am not sure if this is something to be concerned about, does it fix itself in time?

Sounds like you alreadsy fixed it. Tightning it down would have been the first remedy we would have sugested> Good going.

It seems that the higher the water level in the tank the less it leaks...I added more water and its fine, but when the water level goes down, it leaks..

if it is a horizontally mounted bulkhead, make sure that the weight of the pipe that is attached to it is not supported by the bulkhead. The weight of the pipe with water in an unsupported pipe is often enough to cause a small amount of water to seep through the gasket due to the uneven pressure on the face of the gasket.

I also tried vasloline around the seal, that worked for awhile, with the tank filled half way up it was fine, then after I filled the tank 3/4 up it started leaking

empty the water.
remove the bulkhead from the aquarium and clean off all the vasoline.
apply a thin film of aquarium safe silicone to the gasket and the dry aquarium contact area.
Install the bulkhead with the flange inside the aquarium and the gasket between the inside flange and the aquarium surface.
you may want to put a small amount of vasolene on the threads of the nut to aid in tightening it against the outside of the tank.
Silicone should not be necessary, and hand-tightening should be all that is needed to adequately install the bulkhead and seat the gasket.
Check to make absolutely that there are no surface irregularities at the aquarium contact area and that the surface is absolutely clean and devoid of debris. The use of silicon may be necessary if there are surface irregularities.

The silcone should dry for 24 hours but I have done them alot quicker. Make sure while you are thier with the silacone that you give the threads a little dose of it to.

Ok so I put a brand new bulkhead on, I used a bead of silicone on the glass where the gasket will have contact, and a bead on the gasket which will contact the glass. I used vasoline on the threads of the bulkead (I din't want to use silicone in case I needed to remove the bulkhead again. So I will let it set for awhile, and pray that this will work..wish me luck

Was that a pre-drilled tank?
Nice... uh... craftsmanship there...
Glad to see that you got it fixed up right.
