Anyone got a plumbing diagram?

Anyone got a diagram on plumbing from a pre-drilled down to a sump to a skimmer to a 10G refugium and then return? Just want to give my plummer (husband) some ideas before he gets started with our "project". Also - are valves available at Home Depot/Lowes - which kind to use white or grey PVC or does it not matter????? We got an overflow kit with the tank - but no flow valves......should I buy on line?

hi ylmaya:

You can visit the personal websites of many TRT members ---fairly often there will be some illustration of the plumbing.

It's often not a good idea to have valves on the overflow or upfeed pipe, as cumulative surface growth of sessile organisms can hamper, disable or even pervert the function of the valve. A natural constricition point is a magnet for such growths, and if the pipe becomes clogged, then ...well, you get the idea.

It's usually a case of providing a robust overflow that can handle a lot of throughput, and then selecting an upfeed pump to meet your targets re: circulation.

plumbing is not neccasarly that hard. I need a bit more info. What size tank, how many overflows, what size sump, is the refugium above the sump and what kind of skimmer? Generally you want the water to flow without obstruction into the sump then pump or pumps into the refugium and skimmer and back into the tank. I would have a small maxijet pump for the refugium then have the refugium drain back into the tank.

Tank is a 65G. It will be sitting inside a wall unit - all you will see is the front view. All plumbing etc. will go below. Tank is All-Glass Pre-drilled with one built-in overflow...........will have one sump (bio-rocker filter), and in sump protein skimmer (Nautilus) and probably a 12G refugium (my eclipse system 12) which will sit in the cabinet below the tank next to the sump. I bought a mag 7 for the skimmer and a Mag 950 for the return. The skimmer/mag7 will have to run in-sump but the 950 can run outside.

Don't I need valves on the sump lines so that flow from the tank can be cut off?

Please forward plumbing advice/diagrams.....
