G'day guys,
Here where i live in oz we have very hot summers. For the past couple of months my tank has run pretty constant at around 86F. It's very high i know, but nothing has ever looked stressed, my corals open and my fish are happy as. If i see the temp getting any higher i float large coke bottles of ice in it. Everyone around these parts has the same problem (at least those that cant afford $2000 for a chiller), even the LFS. Is there any long term affects of this?

why spend 2k on a chiller when you can spend 2k on central air (if thats how much it costs in your area that is). the only affects would be if something is stressing from it. you would know if something was stressing.

Nothing has stressed in 3 months so far. Man if i could have air conditioning in my place i would have it, i lease this joint ( I am trying to save money to buy my own place but i keep spending it on the tank...LOL). Three weeks in a row of temps of 100F+ is not fun.

ouch. wish it was close to that where I am. the other day it was -10 F. so heating my house isnt cheap (was over $250 last month to heat my house). but during those 90 days in the summer ac is nice =].
as for your tank as long as you keep the temp down to below 86/85 you should be fine. try not to let it get above that as then things will start to stress out and die.

looks like 78 - 81 is the norm so far?
Are these temps the lowest reachable for most? Or is this just the best range? I ask cause my temps seem a little on the low side?
