I am in the middle of stocking my 40 gallon tank with the long awaited critters that I have shelled out all that money for. It is a 40 gallon breeder with a deep sand bed and 30 lbs on live rock on 30 lbs of base rock. It has been up for something like 4 months.
So far I have a flame scallop, 3 margarita snails, an orange limpet (very cool), and a black, shortspined urchin. There are also about 5 fanworms that came on the live rock as well as a multitude of sandworms and peanut worms.
My question is what do you all recommend for reef safe critters for a small tank like this? I wanted hermit crabs originally, but I don't want them to murder my snails. The last couple of things I was thinking about getting were:
3 neon gobies
1 reef-safe starfish...of some sort.
1 lawnmower blenny (optional)
1
yellow head jawfish or
sand sifting goby (optional)
1 oyster or barnacle (assuming I think I can keep it alive)
The only food I add to the tank right now is a little bit of zooplankton and phytoplankton mixed from a bottle for the scallop and fanworms. Also, the fish are secondary to the inverts. This tank is primarily to enjoy the things I couldn't have in freshwater tanks....except for the snails.
