Yellow tail Coris Wrasse scratching?

Hi All,

I just put a new fish in quarantine 5 days ago. He is a Yellow tail Coris about 6 inches. I have noticed him dashing at the sand and rocks every now and then to scratch, but I cannot tell if he has paracites yet. (notice a few small spots but cannot tell if it is bubbles or sand). He is eating well and lots of movement.

Does anyone know if this is normal behavior because he burys in the sand bed at night to sleep? Is it common for them to be itchy because sand gets stuck in their slime coat?

I would hate to treat the tank if there are no paracites...but I would hate to wait until he is suffering. (I hear they are very resistant to paracites).

If anyone has any experience with Coris wrasses I would love to hear some feedback on scratching habits.

THANK YOU!!

Hate to scare you but typically fish try to scratch themselves when they have ich. The lil particles that you mention on its skin also seems to indicate it's probably ich. Believe it or not, feeding with garlic and even adding garlic juice directly to the tank helps a great deal with ich. It should be freshly crushed garlic juice mind you, since the acid released by garlic when its crushed is a defensive mechanism by the glorious lil herb and tends to break down rather quickly when exposed to oxygen.

So I guess that means that the formula 2 with garlic that I'm feeding wont do any good?

It is hard to see anything on the top part of her body because her coloring is a light peach....I dont see anything on her darker half...but on her fins it looks like a dusting right at the base.(I hope it is not velvet) It appears that she is trying to scratch her head though. She also has a damaged fin from the net at the LFS.

Yes it is ich. The spots are visible today. I knew it was bound to happen sooner or later I have been lucky with my last 3 fish.

THANK YOU ALL for your advice. I just got started with the hyposalinity treatment. WISH ME LUCK!
