Yellow Leather

I have a yellow leather that I was given by a very generous person I met through TRT. It has started to divide and it also has a second smaller piece that was already split when I recieved it (or at l;east I believe that it was already split off). I want to remove/frag the smaller piece that is already split off to give the main piece more room to grow. What is the best way to do this and what/how should i attach it to another piece of LR? Rick O do you recognize it? It's doing great and just keeps growing. The piece to the right is the smaller piece that is already split off of the main piece.

The main piece seems to be splitting, you can see the small gap that has started in the main stem. I trust it's better to let it split off on it's own. Thanks...

You can cut the stalk close to the base. Use a razor blade, no scissors. Find a rock with a hole or deep depression and stick the stalk in the hole. Take a strip of bridal veil (largest holes you can find). And wrap it loosly around the leather and rock to hold it in place. It should attach in about a week or so. Another leather may or may not grow back where you cut this from. I would wait to do anything with the one that is still splitting.

I like what Rick told you. I would add to do it outside the tank as leathers can release some nasty toxins during the stress of fragging.

Thanks... I can place it in a seperate tank for a day or so that only has LR algae and a few hermits so that if it does release toxins it won't affect other corals and fish and it will give it a day to un-stress...
