Yellow finger leather and porites question

Awhile back I got a sick yellow leather from my lfs for almost free. It was looking rough, but it stabilized and did not get any worse after a couple of weeks. It did not get any better either though. After my freeze out a week ago, it finally gave up the ghost(being relocated constatnly by my maroon clown interior decorator did not help much either!) Anyway half of the small rock it was on was colinized by porites, they stoped where the yellow leather base used to be. I was wondering if the porites might have been involved in chemical warfare trying to kill the leather so they could spread farther? Maybe the porites were stinging the base of the leather and that is why it was doing so bad? The whole rock used to be porites, it looks like whoever took it to the lfs fragged it onto a porites skeleton that was not quite dead.
Thanks for any ideas
Alan

Hm Not familiar with the aggresion level of Porites, but its not unheard of for corals to come back after extended periods of doramancy, its possible that the leather may try to grow back.
I have had xenia die off an a large nice rock and come back a year later

Hi.

Porites is towards the low end of the scale when it comes to viciousness. Still, slow but steady wins the day, I guess.

The likelihood remains that it wa something else that offed your leather . No shortage of parasites or adverse conditions that can impact on a leather's health.

Thanks for the info Horge, almost everytime I have posted a porites question(only a couple), you have given me some good facts on them, thanks! Thanks doug for the vote of confidence on the leather, but I am not holding my breath.
