Yellow Colony vs Green Algae

My yellow colony polyp is fighting a losing a battle with some kind of green algae competing for the same piece of rock. The funny thing is I don't have an algae problem anywhere else in my system. The algae just showed up on that rock about a week ago and are out of control. I'm guessing there is some nutrients present in that particular rock or something produced by the polyp that the algae thrives on.

Any suggestions? I’d tried pulling the algae off, but it grows right back. I could cover the rock, but that would probably hurt the yellow colony polyp. Will this pass or should I do something now?

Thanks
Rick

The algae lools like an upside down green beard, very strong...doesn't pull off easily. Not as thick as grass, more like hair. I don't know if it is hair algae, but that would make sense.

It looks like briopsis which is hair algae. I fought it on one of my rocks with yellow polyps as well an I took a turkey baster and blasted the dritrius out of the rock and manually pulled it off and did this several times until there was finally no longer nutrients on the rock for it to thrive on and it went away. Just my experience. Also I had some lettue nudibranch's that loved the stuff and mowed it down really well.

I pulled all the algae off once more and it doesn't seem to be coming back this time. The polyps have bounced back and seem to be doing well. In fact, they are bigger then ever.

Only time will tell, but I'd say the problem is solved. The key was to be persistent in removing the algae.

Thanks
