Xenia stories?
Ok so let me hear of your successes or failures with Xenia:
I have some now that have flourished for about 9 months and now for whatever reason are on the way out again. Everything else is doing great? Fish and corals.
I have kept xenia 3 times over the last four years and they all never lasted long. This time has been the longest! Nothing seems to make sense with these guys. Back when I had moderate light (PC) crappy skimmer, and dosed micro vert, they didn't last long (few months maybe)while everything else did just fine and lived long. So the "dirtier" water idea makes no sense??
No I have great lighting great flow, and Kick butt skimmer, ralrey dose anything......They have flourished for a long time, now just all of a sudden they are wilting away.....I am not concerned just want to hear others stories with these or see if anyone has truly kept these long term ie. 1+ years

I had the Pink Creeping Xenia. It was ok for a few months and then I had a change in water temp (my heater warmed the tank up to about 86 degrees) and they wilted away. I assumed it was due to the water change...
Somehow there was a piece that survived...even though it seems as if it all was gone, and I now have a small piece growing again.

I cant explain Xenia was my first coral and it is still kicking & pulsing purchased in March 05. I did take a bunch and put it in the 95 When that tank was first set up and it all died but what was left in the 24g took over again. 24g Nano cube - no skimmer- did well under 72w PC's and also 144w of PC's
This is a current pic of the tank

I have a good frag of the xenia in my 10 gallon and it is still doing fine?
So what is the verdict on these? High, moderate or low light?
Maybe I'll try and move mine in the 110 to the 10. They are on the bottom in the sand isloted so they wouldn't spread like made onto other rock?

I have moved my Xenia high and low, cut it to pieces, dropped it heads first into the sand, put it in shade and it is still alive and pulsing, with double the amount of stalks now on two different rocks. I accidently dropped a piece the size of a penny onto another rock a few weeks ago, now it is a full-size stalk and its getting ready to split.
One very large item to note: Whenever I run carbon, without fail my Xenia will shrivel up for at least a week and some of the smaller stalks will die off. In my experience, it certainly need dirty water!

My water has been virtually pristene, running carbon practically 24/7, skimming wet and not dosing filter foods and they have flourished for 9 months. I too have drooped them, practically kicked them and they were fine!

I was given a few heads of xenia right after my tank finished cycling almost a year ago. I've got probably 40-50 heads now between the three tanks and they all came from the original 2 or 3. Its actually growing to fast. I'd like to get rid of some of it!
