Question

Xenia Question

Hey everyone, sorry I havent been around. Can you please help me out??
I got a single xenia on a piece of rock, and over the period of 3 or more months or so, it has divided into almost 9 seperate ones and keep dividing! Is this good??

Can someone tell me a detailed description of how to move them to seperate areas of the tank? Like how do you do it, do you pull them off the rock, or do you use a razor and cut them? And then how do you get them to stick to a new rocK??Also, i would like to reposition some of my mushrooms that arent getting enough light. How do I get these off the rocks??

thanks pals,

p.s. im probably going to have to give some of the xenias to the store for credit. Just gotta find how to get them off the rocks.

LOL...welcome to the wonderful world of xenia! You're finding out why so many people will just give the stuff away. I just got my frag, so I haven't been lucky enough to have it conquer the ocean yet. Maybe one day.

It sounds like they are goin great! I scrape the base off the rock with an old credit card. Find an old piece of rock best if the size of a golf ball and rubberband then to the rock, lately I have been using zip ties. in a matter of days they will attach to the rock. Don't worry about the shrooms, if they need more light they will detach on their own and find a better home.

That's how my Xenia all began. I had one frag, which grew into and so on. Before I knew it I had a forest. I continually cut it back or pull it off rocks/glass/filters with tweezers and bring it to LFS. Good Luck.
