Xenia problems

I had 2 frags of xeia slime out for no apparent reason. It happened right after I put in a piece of branching montipora that had a small branch broken off. It was not close enough to have actually come in contact, but is it possible that it could have been emitting checmicals in some sort of defense that killed the xenia? Any other possibilities that could have caused the rapid slime out when all the other corals are fine? Thanks.

Yes it's possible that "chemical warfare" was a factor. How long did you have the Xenia? A broken coral (Montipora) will exude a bit more toxicity in a stressed condition and that might have been a factor.

Do you use carbon? Use of carbon can help rid your water of dissolved organics and coral toxins.
