Xenia Problem

I bought a xenia frag 4 days ago and the thing won't open. It's all bunched up looking like it's dead. I have quite a few other corals that are doing great. The xenia is the only thing I am having a problem with. What is wrong with it?

ANd if it was dying, it would not only be bunched up, it would be disntegrating.

I did have a phos problem last week, but I got it under control before I got the frag. Hydrometer is only a few months old and reading 1.024. My iodine/dide was reading a little low so I'll add some to see if that'll help.

Might want to check your Hydro against a Refractometer. I would say that, that is the problem. I had two Hydros and were both off by atleast .004. One being off by .006 and the other .004.

Hope they straighten up soon.

Chris

Yeah, I have a huge damsel that picks at it a little. I may move the xenia to my fuge to see if it opens up.

Yep my damsel loves the xenia too! Never eats it tho, he just takes a chunk and spits it out and would do it till the xenia were gone if I hadn't pulled the xenia from the tank.

It's a 4" marginate damsel. He's the only one picking at the xenia. I have 3 other types of damsels, a spinecheek clown, and a foxface and they don't bother the xenia at all.

I have a Talbot's Damsel that is always pickin on my Kenya Trees. He doesn't harm them but I always catch him doing that. Usually followed by the Fire Clown trying to nip him. Nature working its course?

I'm guessing so. I may just have to give him up to a neighbor.
